Springfield residents graduated from Oak Hill Collaborative’s Hardware for Homes Program and went home with some new technology to stay connected online.
OHC proudly graduated 11 students from its programming on Aug. 7 and each student went home with a newly refurbished laptop and accessories including a charger, mouse, mouse pad and earbuds to listen to audio and video online.
This marks the first graduation to happen at Springfield Township since its debut opening as a Digital Learning Center back in July.
Residents in the rural Mahoning County Township have been coming to Fire Station 21 to attend OHC’s beginner computer classes to more intermediate courses such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Classes will resume in Springfield following a week off on Aug. 21 at 5:30 p.m. with Laptop 101.
Another four residents are projected to graduate on Aug. 21 from Springfield Township, establishing the location as the first to graduate 15 students within two weeks.
“I hope we continue growing in Springfield, the residents really value our outreach through this Digital Learning Center. Thank you to the Springfield Township trustees for supporting our Digital Advantage Initiative® and helping these residents learn how internet access can help them,” said Sarah Russell, the Supervising Digital Navigator and Head of Outreach.
Russell has been instructing classes in Springfield Township and says attendance has been phenomenal and students have requested to know when classes are being planned for as far in advance as October.
