Oak Hill Collaborative will host an EWaste Collection Drive on March 14th from 11a.m. 3 p.m. following the success of its winter collection drive.

The collection drive is free for anyone to drop off technology that is unwanted, broken or needs recycling

After the drive concludes, GreenBoard IT will collect all materials and properly recycle and dispose of the technology, wiping out all personal data.

Accepted items at the collection site include laptops, PCs, DVD players, MP3 players, gaming consoles, routers, hard drives, keyboards, wires, scanners, LCD monitors, servers, cameras and other technology.

Items that cannot be accepted include printers, TVs, CRT monitors, home medical equipment and kitchen appliances.

Elizabeth Coss, the Communications Coordinator for OHC, has said community response has been incredibly positive so far.

“This e-waste drive is a form of spring cleaning for so many people. We all have things we need to get rid of, so to offer an environmentally safe option with security protections for our community is so important. We’ve been getting more than 10 calls every day so far about this drive – our team can’t wait to help everyone,” Coss said.

Elizabeth Coss, TaeShawn Madison, and Zach Genhart.

The first drive was a huge success for both organizations, collecting just shy of two tons, which included more than 80 laptops and 330 pounds of desktop monitors.

OHC and GreenBoard IT are aiming to recycle even more technology this drive, with 4,238 lbs as the number to beat.

To coincide with the e-waste drive, OHC will offer a free, public course on e-waste at 2 p.m. that Friday.

The class will discuss what e-waste is, how it’s recycled and how refurbished technology can impact the environment.

The drive will be hosted at Oak Hill Collaborative’s Main Branch Location, 507 Oak Hill Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio.
