Oak Hill Collaborative will host its third annual E-Waste Collection Drive on Friday, April 10 from 11a.m. – 3 p.m. in partnership with local recycler GreenBoard IT.

The E-Waste Collection Drive is open for the public to drop off technology that is unwanted, broken or needs recycling.

Numerous items are free to drop off, including laptops, PCs, DVD players, MP3 players, gaming consoles, controllers, routers, hard drives, keyboards, wires, scanners, LCD monitors, radios, speakers, webcams, servers, cameras and other various technology.

After the drive, GreenBoard IT collects all materials and properly disposes technology, wipes personal data and ensures that toxic materials in many devices a safely handled.

Items that cannot be accepted include printers, CRT monitors, TV’s, fluorescent bulbs, barometers, home medical equipment and kitchen appliances.

In three previous drives, OHC has collected more than 10,000 lbs of electronics waste to be recycled by GreenBoard IT.

Sarah Russell, Oak Hill Collaborative’s Assistant Director, believes that collecting old devices keeps dangerous materials out of landfills, such as lithium and mercury.

“Spring cleaning is the perfect time to ensure you safely discard old electronics. Older laptops might contain mercury. Your old smartphone sitting in a junk drawer probably has a lithium battery. These aren’t things we want to recklessly toss into garbage cans,” Russell says. “Take some time, collect what you don’t want, and we’ll do all the heavy lifting if you can bring it to our facility. From there, GreenBoard IT collects these electronics from us and is federally certified to sort, clean, disable and recycle everything.”

The E-Waste Collection Drive will be located at Oak Hill Collaborative’s Main Branch Location at 507 Oak Hill Ave. in Youngstown.
