Oak Hill Collaborative will\u00a0host\u00a0its\u00a0third\u00a0annual E-Waste\u00a0Collection\u00a0Drive on\u00a0Friday, April 10\u00a0from 11a.m.\u00a0–\u00a03\u00a0p.m.\u00a0in partnership with local recycler\u00a0GreenBoard\u00a0IT.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0E-Waste\u00a0Collection\u00a0Drive<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0open for the public\u00a0to drop off\u00a0technology\u00a0that is unwanted, broken or needs\u00a0recycling.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Numerous\u00a0items are free to drop off,\u00a0including\u00a0laptops,\u00a0PCs,\u00a0DVD players, MP3 players, gaming consoles,\u00a0controllers,\u00a0routers, hard drives, keyboards, wires, scanners, LCD monitors,\u00a0radios, speakers, webcams,\u00a0servers,\u00a0cameras\u00a0and other\u00a0various\u00a0technology.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After the drive,\u00a0GreenBoard\u00a0IT collects all materials and properly disposes technology, wipes personal\u00a0data\u00a0and ensures that toxic materials in many devices a safely handled.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Items that\u00a0cannot be accepted\u00a0include\u00a0printers,\u00a0CRT monitors,\u00a0TV\u2019s,\u00a0fluorescent bulbs, barometers,\u00a0home medical equipment and kitchen appliances.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

In three\u00a0previous\u00a0drives, OHC has collected more than\u00a010,000\u00a0lbs\u00a0of\u00a0electronics\u00a0waste to be\u00a0recycled\u00a0by\u00a0GreenBoard\u00a0IT.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah\u00a0Russell, Oak Hill Collaborative\u2019s Assistant Director, believes that collecting old\u00a0devices\u00a0keeps\u00a0dangerous materials out of landfills,\u00a0such as lithium and mercury.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSpring cleaning is the perfect time\u00a0to ensure\u00a0you\u00a0safely\u00a0discard\u00a0old electronics. Older\u00a0laptops\u00a0might\u00a0contain\u00a0mercury. Your\u00a0old smartphone sitting in\u00a0a\u00a0junk drawer\u00a0probably\u00a0has\u00a0a lithium\u00a0battery. These\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0things we want to recklessly toss into garbage cans,\u201d Russell says. \u201cTake some time, collect what you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0want, and\u00a0we\u2019ll\u00a0do all the heavy lifting if you can bring it to our facility. From there,\u00a0GreenBoard\u00a0IT collects these\u00a0electronics from us and is federally certified to sort, clean, disable and recycle everything.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0E-Waste Collection Drive\u00a0will be\u00a0located\u00a0at Oak Hill Collaborative\u2019s Main Branch Location\u00a0at\u00a0507 Oak Hill Ave.\u00a0in\u00a0Youngstown.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
